PURE NATURE: THE MOST IMPORTANT MATERIALS AT A GLANCE
# 1 NATURAL FIBERS:
The natural fibers are any fibers called natural origin. Regardless of whether they are obtained from vegetable or animal raw materials. These can be further processed directly and without chemical treatment or similar. Whether baskets made of seaweed, carpets made of hemp or placemats made of jute: At BUTLERS we like to use natural fibers, as they are renewable, extremely robust and also versatile :
- Seaweed: Dried seaweed is used, among other things, to make wicker. Baskets made of seagrass are extremely stable and have a high load capacity . Exactly what you would expect from good baskets!
- Cotton: Whether pillows and blankets, carpets or towels: the all-round talent cotton is used wherever soft and hard-wearing fabrics are required.
- Hemp, jute + sisal: Hemp fibers are a tried and tested classic in the manufacture of clothing and home textiles. However, in the meantime they went a little out of style. Today the crop is celebrating its comeback. As a robust, antistatic, dirt-repellent and therefore easy-care material , it is suitable for B. for the manufacture of carpets. Jute and sisal also have properties similar to hemp. These fibers can be used to make carpets as well as bags and baskets.
- Linen: The nice thing about linen or flax fibers is that they are tear-resistant, dirt-repellent, almost lint-free and have a wonderful shine. Linen fabrics are therefore predestined for use as tablecloths, serviettes or table runners . But be careful: they are unfortunately not crease-free ...
# 2 WOOD
A natural living style also includes accessories (e.g. decorative plates and bowls) and furniture (especially garden furniture) made of wood. The wood should be as natural as possible , without varnish or paint, and of course come from sustainably managed forestry. The FSC ® seal offers orientation here . It certifies that the wood in question has been planted on sustainably cultivated areas and that no rainforest has been cut down for it. Light types of wood with a striking grain, such as the fast-growing acacia wood, go particularly well with Natural Living.
Tips for outdoor use: Acacia wood is particularly suitable for outdoor use due to its robust and hard properties . “Painted or natural: Both are weatherproof, although oiled, natural furniture is even more resistant. One way or another, however, it doesn't work entirely without care. Once a year you should sand and oil your wooden outdoor furniture in order to maintain its resistance. Then you will enjoy them for a long time, ”recommends Ina Clermont, furniture expert at BUTLERS.
# 3 BAMBOO
Whether garden furniture, lanterns or cooking utensils: bamboo is an ideal raw material from which furniture, decoration ideas and even bicycles are made. It is easy to recycle and grows quickly - and is therefore very popular across all industries.
Tip for use outside: bamboo furniture is weatherproof, but not weatherproof. “You should therefore not permanently expose your outdoor furniture to moisture. It is best to cover the furniture in autumn and winter and store it in the garage or arbor, ”recommends BUTLERS expert Ina.
# 4 RATTAN
Light, stable, durable and sustainable: with these properties it is not surprising that rattan is an extremely popular material from which woven furniture and baskets are made. The fast-growing natural product is obtained from the East Asian rattan palm. The outer skin of the woody shoot of the rattan liana is called rattan. The core of the shoots is called rattan.
Traditionally, rattan seats for chairs and armchairs are made. But we also encounter rattan as door panels for cupboards and paneling for chests of drawers. The so-called Viennese braid is particularly famous. A centuries-old art of braiding, known for its characteristic, classic pattern of six interwoven rattan strands.
# 5 GREEN PLANTS + DRIED FLOWERS
The Natural Living color concept is limited to light earth tones, white and gray. Only green plants provide splashes of color. With their fresh, lush green, there is plenty of liveliness in your own four walls and they contribute to a good, natural room climate. Green plants are therefore an absolute must for fans of natural living!
In addition to plants, dried flowers, ornamental grasses and cereals also harmonize with the natural living trend. Whether individual twigs or a lushly bound bouquet: dried flowers underline the natural living ambience and are a long-lasting decorative highlight in the hallway or on a chest of drawers.
# 6 DISHES
Whether in organic shapes, hand-made or just in a handmade look, with reactive glaze, haptic bumps and small imperfections: dishes that were popular in the 70s and 80s are gaining popularity again today and it proves that the natural living trend is there also for the set table!
